NMAX vs PCX in Bali: Which Should You Rent?
Bali's two favorite maxi scooters, compared honestly by the people who service both: comfort, storage, fuel, hills — and which rider each one suits.
The Yamaha NMAX and Honda PCX160 are Bali's two favorite maxi scooters, and the two most requested bikes in our fleet. We service both, ride both daily, and get asked to choose between them at least once a week. Here's the honest answer.
Comfort
PCX takes it for pure plushness: a wider, softer seat and relaxed legroom that makes the Uluwatu run feel shorter than it is. NMAX counters with a sportier riding position that some riders prefer for control on twisty mountain roads. Six-footers fit both; passengers vote PCX.
Storage
Both swallow a helmet under the seat. The PCX's 30L compartment is a touch more usable for groceries and a laptop sleeve. Both have USB charging for the navigation phone that will absolutely be melting in the sun.
Fuel economy
Honestly? Outstanding on both — expect 45–48 km/L. A full tank covers Ubud to Uluwatu and back with room to spare. You'll spend more on coffee than petrol, and with our any-level fuel return policy, the tank math never matters anyway.
Hills & handling — the Ubud question
This is where geography votes. Around our base the riding is coastal and flat — Canggu, Seminyak, the bypass down to Uluwatu — which is exactly the PCX160's territory: silkier at cruising speed and the calmer bike in traffic. Point yourself inland instead, up to Ubud, Bedugul or Kintamani, and the NMAX 155's extra punch off the line and planted cornering win the day, especially two-up.
Looks
Subjective, but the pattern is real: PCX reads as executive lounge, NMAX as sport tourer. Neither takes a bad photo in front of a temple gate.

The verdict
- Choose the NMAX if your week includes Kintamani, Sidemen, or any road that goes up — or you just like a bike that feels eager.
- Choose the PCX if maximum comfort over distance matters most — long stays, daily commutes, passenger-heavy plans.
