Riding in Seminyak
Wider roads, denser traffic
Seminyak is easier to read than Canggu — the roads are properly surfaced and wide enough for two cars — but there is far more of everything on them. Jalan Raya Seminyak and Sunset Road carry real volume, including tour buses and airport transfers, and it moves at a steady crawl rather than in the stop-start bursts you get in the gangs further north.
The part that catches people out is the one-way system around Jalan Kayu Aya (Oberoi) and the lanes off it. Turning around is not always possible where you expect, and a wrong turn can mean a long loop. Check the arrows before committing.
Timing
Sunset Road is busiest at the two commuter peaks, roughly 08:00–10:00 and 16:00–19:00. The restaurant strip around Petitenget fills from about 19:00 and parking gets genuinely hard after that.
If you are heading to the airport from here, add a generous buffer at those hours — it is only about 9 km but the traffic is unpredictable.
Parking
Paid, organised parking is the norm here rather than the exception. Most restaurants, beach clubs and the bigger shops have an attendant and a marked area, usually Rp 2.000–5.000. Street parking on the main roads is often restricted and enforcement does happen.
This is one area where a bigger bike costs you nothing — the parking bays are proper bays, not gaps between other scooters.
Conditions to expect
The surfaces are good, so the hazards are traffic hazards rather than road hazards: cars pulling out of hotel driveways, pedestrians crossing between parked vehicles, and delivery vehicles stopping in the live lane. Ride at a speed that lets you stop for something you have not seen yet.
Sunset Road has fast-moving traffic by Bali standards and drivers change lanes without much warning.
Which bike
Seminyak suits any bike in the fleet, so choose for the rest of your trip rather than for the town. The PCX160 and NMAX Neo are the more comfortable machines here because you spend more time at a steady 40–60 km/h on open road than crawling through lanes. The Stylo 160 is a good middle option — same engine as the PCX, lighter, easier to park.
