Scooter rental in Ubud — free delivery, no deposit

This is hill riding, not town riding

Ubud sits well inland and noticeably higher than the coast, and the road there climbs steadily most of the way. That single fact should drive your choice of bike more than anything else on this page: a 125cc scooter carrying two adults and a daypack will do the climb, but it will be working hard the whole way and slow on the steeper sections.

The roads themselves are narrower than the coastal strip and often have a deep drainage channel at the edge with no barrier. Give yourself more room from the verge than feels necessary.

Getting there from the coast

The direct route through Denpasar is the shortest on a map and usually the slowest in practice. Going up through Mengwi and Payangan is longer in distance, quieter, greener, and generally faster in the middle of the day — it also avoids the worst of the city traffic entirely.

Leaving early makes a real difference: before about 09:00 the road is clear and the temperature is far more comfortable.

Traffic and parking in the centre

Central Ubud is genuinely congested from late morning until late afternoon — roughly 11:00 to 16:00 — and Monkey Forest Road and Jalan Raya Ubud are the worst of it. Tour buses stopping to unload make a single-lane road into no lanes at all.

Parking in the centre is limited and mostly paid. The practical approach is to park once, somewhere at the edge, and walk the middle — the centre is small enough that this costs you very little time and saves a great deal of frustration.

Conditions to expect

Rain arrives more often and more heavily up here than on the coast, and it arrives faster. Afternoon downpours are routine in the wet season. Your raincoats are under the seat; the sensible move is to stop and wait rather than ride through the first fifteen minutes, when the road surface is at its most slippery.

On the smaller lanes outside town, expect gravel on bends, dogs, and the occasional ceremony that closes a road entirely with no warning or diversion. Turn around and take another way — the ceremony has priority.

Which bike

Take the NMAX Neo or the PCX160. The extra torque means the climb is unremarkable rather than a struggle, and both are far more comfortable over the distance. If you are riding alone and travelling light, the Stylo 160 manages it well too — it uses the same 156.9cc engine as the PCX.

Delivery

Ubud is about 28 km from Dalung and takes us roughly an hour, traffic depending. Delivery is free and there is no minimum rental — but for Ubud it is worth telling us your preferred time when you book, so we can set out before the midday congestion.
